A chiropractic adjustment is a precise, controlled movement applied to a joint of the spine or body that isn't moving the way it should. The goal is to restore normal motion, ease pain and take pressure off the surrounding muscles and nerves.
At our Kent office, Dr. Ed Pfeiffer uses gentle manual adjustment techniques, the same hands-on approach he has used with thousands of patients over more than 20 years.
Adjustments can help with
- Low back and neck pain
- Stiffness and limited range of motion
- Headaches that start in the neck
- Pain after car accidents, falls or work injuries
- Shoulder, hip and other joint problems
How we can help
Every adjustment starts with an exam, so we know which joints need care and which don't. We explain what we're going to do before we do it, and we adapt the technique to your comfort, age and condition.
- Gentle manual techniques
- Care matched to your exam findings
- Combined with massage and exercise when helpful
- Clear explanations at every visit
What to expect at your first visit
- Consultation. We talk about your symptoms, history and goals.
- Exam and any necessary x-rays. We find out what is causing the problem.
- A clear plan. Dr. Pfeiffer explains what he found and what care he recommends, and in many cases treatment can start the same day.
New patients can take advantage of our $50 new patient special, which includes the consultation, examination and any necessary x-rays.
Frequently asked questions
What is the popping sound during an adjustment?
It's usually a small release of gas from the fluid inside the joint, similar to cracking your knuckles. It isn't bones grinding, and it isn't what makes the adjustment work, so not every adjustment makes a sound.
Does an adjustment hurt?
Most people find adjustments comfortable and feel relief afterward. Some feel mild soreness for a day, similar to after exercise.
Is it safe?
Adjustments performed by a trained, licensed chiropractor are generally considered safe. We screen for anything that would make an adjustment inappropriate and refer you to another provider when needed.
